Future Balance - strategic framework
Future Balance is a strategic framework designed to help decision-makers understand the long-term consequences of today’s actions on future generations.
Grounded in the principle of intergenerational equity, the project introduces the concept of “debt to the future”, making visible how policies, investments and strategic choices can either create long-term value or impose liabilities on future generations.
Inspired by accounting principles and the structure of a balance sheet, Future Balance translates complex sustainability challenges into a clear, decision-oriented framework. By combining systems thinking, futures thinking and participatory approaches, the framework supports more responsible, transparent and long-term oriented decision-making across complex institutional contexts.
